Interview with Holly Lovelady

Holly Lovelady is an incredible artist whose new song 'Oreanne' has just been released. I had a chance to catch up with Holly about writing the new song, recording at the Motor Museum recording studio and her live show plans.

Hi, how are you?

I’m great thank you! Just a little bit hungry!

How would you describe your musical style to the readers?

Electro Pop mixed with soft folk and ballad haha! Bit of a mouthful isn’t it?

Who would you say are your biggest musical influences?

Fleetwood Mac I have always admired. Recently I have been listening to a lot of Simply Red. My mum would play them all the time when I was younger and his voice is just incredible.

Your new song ‘Oreanne’ has just been released, congratulations! The song feels hypnotic and intimate, what was the process of making the song like for you?

Well I wrote the song a little while ago because I was inspired by someone else’s story as I felt like I could relate. I really enjoyed writing this one and I love that it has a magic theme to it haha.

What was it like to produce ‘Oreanne’ alongside Bob Mackenzie at the iconic Motor Museum Recording Studio?

It was amazing! It was my first time working with Bob and we just got on so well, his music style and mine complement each other. He’s a really talented lad and really lovely as well. And what can I say about the Motor Museum….its just incredible!

You’ve said that ‘Oreanne’ is inspired by a real love story that came to a dramatic end, leaving the girl with a broken heart and dealing with the loss. Where did the inspiration for the lyrics for this song come from?

Well funny enough someone asked me a similar question the other day! So at the time I was writing this track the fair ground was in town and I think the circus was as well so the magic theme in my lyrics definitely comes from that. But the story itself was inspired from somebody else’s love story that I could really relate to.

What’s something you want listeners to take away from listening to this song?

I want listeners to have the chorus running through their head haha!

Do you have a favourite lyric or line from the song?

“ The magics worn off the shows been to town, he’s shown his magic trick now the curtain has come down” that opening line is my favourite.

Now that things are starting to open up again here in the UK, do you have any plans for live shows anytime soon?

I’m playing 42 Degrees festival up in Penrith on the 16th July. Then another festival in Bury the month after.

What can we expect to hear from you next? Is ‘Oreanne’ a part of a bigger project for you?

My next single will be out in a few weeks! I can tell you it’s called “Running” and it’s got some epic drums in it haha.

And lastly, what music have you been listening to recently? Anything you can recommend to us?

I’ve been listening to Simply Red! Go have a listen to them!

You can go and listen to 'Oreanne' out now, wherever you listen to music. Be sure to give Holly Lovelady a follow on her social media as there's lots more to come that I'm sure you don't want to miss out on.
