Interview with Calum Lintott

Calum Lintott is an artist from Southampton who has recently released his single 'It's Easy To Do The Unexpected' which is a really great song that's catchy and full of punchy guitars. I asked Calum some questions about the song, what he misses about live shows and some other local bands that you should check out.

Hi Calum, firstly how are you?

I am great! Bloody bored of being stuck in, but grand!

How would you describe your sound to the readers?

Melodic, anthemic indie rock n roll with a dancey twist!

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

For me, it’s got to be the greats! Freddie Mercury, Hendrix, Bowie! Etc etc! I love a good front man... I’ve always listens to a wide variety of music though! From Johnny Cash, to Scissor Sisters to Foo Fighters! I think you can hear it in the music. Feel good story telling with an aggressive rock vibe!

How did you get started in music?

My Mum bought me a bass. I was gutted as I asked for a guitar. (It’s an emotional story).

Your latest single ‘It’s Easy to Do The Unexpected’ is a really catchy song, with a really great guitar sound. Can you tell us more about the writing process?

This song in particular developed very naturally! My drummer (Mo) lives in Germany so we exchanged lots of mp3 files between us (due to covid). We previously hashed out the song in a rehearsal when it was allowed, but due to lockdown restrictions much of our creative process in the past year has happened online. We even took part in some online remote recording sessions! From Hannover to Southampton! My bass player (Luke) is an unreal producer. We call him the sonic surgeon. He deserves lots of credit for making the track sound as good as it does!

The chorus is really powerful, I was wondering if you could tell us more about why you wanted to write this song? What do you want listeners to get out of it?

In short, it’s about proving people wrong & working hard. I hope some people can use it as motivation! Take the leap, do what you love.

I can imagine this sounding amazing live, what do you miss most about performing live during this lockdown?

PEOPLE! I just miss the environment, the buss & atmosphere in general. People smiling, dancing, singing! I simply can’t wait to step back on stage & connect with a crowd. There’s nothing like it.

What’s next for you? Any more releases on the horizon?

Lots & lots! Got over 50 songs that I’ve written since the first lockdown!

And lastly, what music have you been really enjoying recently? Anything that you want to recommend to us?

I’ll recommend some Southampton bands! Check out Wild Front & The Dead Freights!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions for us, it’s really appreciated.

Keep rocking!
